From the Design Desk: A New Look for Pevely Police

Not every project that comes across the Huntzman Design Desk begins with a blank sheet of paper.

Sometimes an agency comes to us with an established design already in hand and simply needs someone to turn that artwork into quality, finished insignia.

That was the case with our latest project for the Pevely Police Department in Missouri.

As the department transitioned to new uniforms, Huntzman Enterprises was tasked with producing their new embroidered shoulder and hat patches.

One Design — Two Applications

The department's new insignia maintains a consistent appearance across both uniform applications.

The primary regulation shoulder patch measures 4.75 inches high, providing the larger format needed for wear on the uniform sleeve.

We also produced a smaller 3-inch version for the uniform hat, requiring the same overall design to be adapted to a considerably smaller footprint while retaining its recognizable elements.

Both versions feature bold PEVELY POLICE identification above the central artwork, surrounded by a clean white merrowed border.

From Artwork to Embroidery

The centerpiece combines the department's badge imagery with several familiar law-enforcement and patriotic elements.

A black-gray-white American flag provides the background, accented by a Thin Blue Line, while the badge an eagle flying above the American flag and state seal elements.

Producing the same artwork at two substantially different sizes also demonstrates an important part of custom insignia manufacturing: what works at 4.75 inches still has to work at 3 inches.

As artwork becomes smaller, fine lettering, borders and intricate elements have to be carefully translated into thread so that the smaller patch remains recognizable while preserving the appearance of the agency's approved design.

Your Design or Ours

This particular project also gives us an opportunity to answer a question we occasionally receive.

Does Huntzman have to create the original artwork?

Absolutely not.

While we routinely work with customers to develop completely original insignia from concept through finished production, we're equally happy to work from an agency's existing or approved design.

If you've already got the artwork, we'll work with it.

If you've got an idea scribbled on a piece of paper, we'll help turn it into something production-ready.

And if all you've got is “Okay, here's what we're thinking…”

Well, that's why there's a Design Desk.

A New Uniform, A New Patch

With the department transitioning to its new uniforms, the finished project included both the 4.75-inch regulation shoulder patch and matching 3-inch hat patch, providing Pevely Police with a consistent identity across both applications.

Another custom agency project completed and out the door from Huntzman Enterprises.

Whether we're creating something entirely new or taking an established design and translating it into finished insignia, the goal remains the same:

Make sure the finished product represents the agency wearing it.
